Pop Artist- Shannon Favia
Art can be intimidating. Don’t get me wrong, I love all different types of art, but walking into an art gallery makes me a little nervous. You feel me?
My girlfriend, Kelli, happened to be walking down Southport Avenue years ago and spotted an art installation. She was instantly drawn in by a painting of a giant colorful nike sneaker and walked inside. The art was all by local Chicago artist, Shannon Favia.
Kelli commissioned Shannon to do a sneaker painting for her huband, who happens to be a huge sneakerhead. Shannon’s work was introduced to our group of friends. We all wanted a Shannon Favia piece in our homes.
Shannon is a pop artist with street influence. Her art is colorful- positive- playful- and- it just makes you happy… Isn’t that what art is all about? Shannon is a mother to a basketball loving boy, and she’s done a lot of cool custom art work for the Chicago Bulls. What a proud Mama moment that must be for her son to look up to?!
Shannon’s also created The Happy Inside Project- Using art as a reminder that we are in control of our own happiness. A lesson for children. A reminder to adults. How cool is that?
A few years ago, Greg and I wanted a piece for our family room. It’s the hang out spot for our boys, and we wanted something different. We commissioned Shannon to create something for us. Shannon let us be a part of the process, and we talked through that we envisioned for the painting. We decided on the words, ‘TODAY WAS A GOOD DAY’. That Ice Cube song brings us back to our childhood, and it teaches the boys about positivity. We even requested a couple other song lyrics to be put somewhere in the painting- ‘Always stay humble and kind’ and ‘1, 2, 3, and to the 4!’ We couldn’t be happier with the finished piece of art.
A peak at a few more of Shannon’s art pieces. She’s even started painting basketballs, and I’m proud to be one of her first pair of custom sneaks. Thanks for bringing art into my life and our home, Shannon. And most importantly for taking the intimidation out of the process.
